Heyo 2015 Book Challenge #10

Among the Impostors 

This book is the second out of 7 books. I would say the first one was a little better. Plus this one was pretty up to page 92. THAT IS ABOUT HALF THE BOOK!!!!!!!! You would definitely need to read the 1st book to understand what is actually going on, but other than the boring half the book was pretty good. Yeah after those 92 pages the book got good and kept me on the edge of my seat. Like I said I can't tell you what really going on since I don't know if you read the book or not but here is the basic plot:

Luke Garner is a third child, and that does not seem to bad but in this generation the world running out of food and so every family is limited to 2 kids. There are many kids who are the third child but they are forced into hiding. Family's can give up there 3rd child but then will have to face many consequences . Maybe less for turning the kids in but still. If you know someone who murdered someone and you were paid to hide the body then you turned in the murder would get a pass. UH NO!!!!! Oh did I say the punishment for the kids. Yeah it's death. Can Luke escape his fate or will someone betray him?

2015 Book Challenge #10

The book I read was Remarkable by Lizzie K. Foley. Since I had to book report on it without spoiling the ending I am just going to post that so here it is copied and pasted:

hook: Once upon a time in the town of Remarkable where everyone is remarkable except Jane Doe. I mean if you ever wondered into this town and were speaking to any adult (except Jane’s parents) and you said Jane Doe or Jane and the word remarkable in the same sentence, their first response would probably be “Who’s Jane”. Then after you told them who Jane is they would look at your face to see if you were serious, then laugh and quickly walk away without looking back. They probably would have thought that you also thought that the Grimlet twins were well mannered and never cause trouble, and therefore be crazy or mental.  

setting: The book takes place in the town of Remarkable. In Remarkable there are 2 types of schools a regular old school like the one we’re in and then there is the best school in the history of schools where you are never wrong and teachers encourage you no matter what you do. Oh and there is no such thing as a bad kid. It is called Remarkable’s  School for the Remarkably Gifted. The town has the lake of Remarkable right next to it which has something very special in it. A Sea Monster named Lucky. Lucky is very shy and she will only come out of the lake for Grandpa John and his Figgy Doodles.

main characters description:

Jane Doe: She is ten years old, medium height, her eyes have particular color, and the hair on the top of her head is not quite brown enough to even be called mousy. She is the only kid at the regular school until the Grimlet twins get expelled from Remarkable’s  School for the Remarkably Gifted. She at first is excited to have new the classmates until they cause so much trouble that they turn their teacher into a pirate.

Anderson Brigby Bright Doe: Is the big brother of Jane and his remarkable talent is painting. He has fallen in love with the annoying Lucinda Wilhelmina Hinojosa. Who can’t even remember his name because she is too obsessed with locating her favorite but missing musician.  

Captain Rogo Herring: A run away pirate who doesn’t even want to be a pirate. He just moved into Remarkable and lives in a haunted mansion on a hill. He has 2 peg legs ,but somehow manages to learn how to ride a bike. Friend of Jane.

Grandpa John Doe: The most unremarkable man in Remarkable no matter how long he’s known a person they never fail to introduce themselves anytime he says hi to one of the townspeople. Grandpa of Jane.

Mayor Julietta Augustina Doe: Wife of Grandpa John. She is the Grandmother of Jane. You wouldn’t say she’s disappointed in Jane’s lack of talent ,but she is certainly not impressed and she definitely does not approve. And if something isn’t approved by Mayor Julietta Augustina Doe they usually have to go, but because Jane is her granddaughter she will try to help her find a talent if she remembers that Jane even exists.  

Eddie Grimlet: New friend of Jane. Remarkable talent is being evil. He’s twins with Melissa Grimlet. He and Melissa sometimes go too far and drive any sane person insane.

Melissa Grimlet: Friend of Jane. Twins with Eddie Grimlet. She and Eddie have the same talent. They are planning something disastrous for the science fair dance.

The 3 Pirates: They are not really main characters but deserve to be mentioned. The 3 pirates are out to find Captain Rogo Herring to do something real bad. But they have had no luck yet.

plot/problem: In this story there are a bunch of little problem but there are 4 big problems. Two for Jane, one for Anderson Brigby Bright, and one for Grandpa John. Grandpa John’s problem is that the town is building a bell tower that plays the kind of of music that Lucky will come up out of the lake to dance too. If she comes out every hour then she will be hunted down by scientists and have many test done. Grandpa John cares too much for Lucky to have this happen, but how will he stop the construction of the bell tower. Anderson Brigby Bright’s problem is that he can not get his true love to fall for him and he won’t stop bugging Jane for help. Jane’s first problem is that she is unremarkable and that she feels that her own parents don’t believe in her finding her talent. Her 2cd problem is that the Grimlet twin have caused so much trouble that they turned her teacher into a incredibly mean pirate teacher. Instead of giving Jane and the twins a worksheet or 2 for homework she give them pile of stinkn’ hard homework, the littlest things set the teacher off and then she makes them walk a wooden plank out the window into a kiddie pool full of water. So they are stuck wet all day.

favorite passage: “Grandpa John disappeared into the kitchen to cook everyone a nice dinner of plain noodles and unbuttered toast. But as soon as he was out of sight, Jane’s Grandmother forgot all about him and picked up the phone to order dinner from Remarkable’s House of Otherworldly Pizza.”

reason: It makes me smile and it shows how unremarkable Grandpa John is. Even his wife can hardly remember him or where he is at the time and place.

cliff hanger: Will Jane ever find her remarkable talent? Will the 3 pirates find Captain Rogo Herring? Will Anderson Brigby Bright win the affection of his true love?
